Thursday, 30 July 2010---The Office of the Ombudsman ordered a six-month preventive suspension of six Comelec officials in connection with the botched BSF deal. These officials include Jose M. Tolentino Jr. (executive director), Maria Lea R. Alarkon (Bids and Awards Committee chairman) and four members Allen Francis B. Abaya, Maria Norina T. Casingal, Martin B. Niedo, and Antonio B. Santella. The case involved P690-million worth of BSF irregularly awared to OCT Paper Supply, but later recalled when the deal was disclosed as disadvantageous to the government due to overpricing.
Friday, 30 July 2010---The Commission en banc decided to implement the suspension order immediately instead of waiting for Monday (2 August).
